Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered. Two adult female manatees socialize and touch flippers near a warm springhead. One manatee is covered in red algae and one has some green algae. It is late fall when most manatee first arrive and the type of algae growing on them can give clues as to where these individuals spent the summer. Horizontal orientation with mixing freshwater that turns aqua. Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA.
