Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered. Series of a mature adult male manatee with scars resting and warming himself over a large springhead. An adult male manatee floats with perfect buoyancy over a large spring. Propeller scars are shown and reflected. A mangrove snapper, Lutjanus griseus, swims below. Tranquil warm blue freshwater and rainbow sun rays contrast with the ugly propeller scars. In the left background are remnants of wooden posts left by the Cousteau team in the early 1970s while they were corralling a rescued manatee named Sewer Sam. Horizontal orientation with blue water, reflection and rainbow sun rays. Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA.
