Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered. Two male manatee calves cavort and socialize over Big Sister Spring. Young boys often play with each other while their mother manatees rest nearby. It seems the moms are happy their boys are occupied and practicing sirenian interaction skills. Mangrove snapper, Lutjanus griseus, also swim in the warm blue freshwater of this springhead that is part of Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA.
