Young male manatee calf displays curious nature. He is looking intently. What does he see? Even though manatee eyesight is regarded as poor, in their watery world the underwater colors and shapes they see are different from the way we see but effective for them. Manatees also learn to "feel" to see with their vibrasse manatee hairs. Three Sisters Springs on a clear blue water peaceful day. Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered IUCN. USFWS downlisted to Threatened in 2017.
