Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered. A mother manatee visits the submerged tree roots with twin female calves in the warm springs on a cold winter day. Rubbing or chewing on tree roots could be investigation, or it could be scraping of certain root covers for a snack as there is little to eat near the freshwater springs. Twins are rare and these are not documented but evidence suggests they are twins and not a calf plus an adoptee. Rare series. Horizontal orientation, reflection and blue water. Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA.
