A rotund male manatee calf swims above his mother while she guides him into the warm springs. Calves often swim above (or below) their moms while keeping tactile contact. The strong Florida sunlight feels good to the pair and is not too bright as manatee eyesight is poor. They "feel" their world with many body hairs. This is a recent image from March 2018. Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered. Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA. IUCN Red List: Endangered. USFWS implemented downlisting to Threatened 2017: http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/22106/0. Taken under USFWS SUP Permit
