Manatee Health Assessments, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA. November 10, 2011 am. Researchers from several federal and state agencies and other partners work together to gather data during the manatee capture and health assessments. A Manatee Rescue boat is used as a platform to gather data sampling from a manatee. Body temperature monitoring, blood sampling, wound dressing, are some of the procedures in progress. Water is poured over the snout to help the animal with its breaths and to keep the skin moist. The manatee is only out of the water for a pre-determined safe period of time. Scars on the manatee are documented.
