Florida manatee, Trichechus manatus latirostris, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, endangered. Manatees rest on a cold winter day in the warm waters of the springs. One has a deep tail injury. Fish, bream, Lepomis spp., are present. The manatees tolerate the fish attention as it is the price to pay for sharing the warm waters. Bream target dermis and dead skin on the manatee. Horizontal orientation. Three Sisters Springs, Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA.
