Manatee Health Assessments, Kings Bay, Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida USA. November 10, 2011 pm. Researchers from several federal and state agencies and other partners work together to gather data during the manatee capture and health assessments. A Manatee Rescue boat is used as a platform while a researcher scans for succesful insertion of a passive integrated transponder (PIT) tag. Grease pencil marks designate a field ID number and sex of the animal. The manatee is only out of the water for a pre-determined safe period of time. Project Leader, Dr. Robert K. Bonde, oversees.
