Live from diving the Blue Heron Bridge - Riveria Beach, Florida! I’m still here but I thought I’d do a quick post and update on the “happenings”.
This has been a banner year for octopus at Blue Heron Bridge and the surrounding area. In the last 7 dives I’ve seen three mating pairs of common octopus alone plus numerous sightings of common octopus and other octopus species.
But the “honeymooners” above have been my fav by far!! We have observed them over the last week mating, having disagreements, eating, chasing away intruders and just “hanging out” - together. Octopus are usually solitary so seeing two together for a week is quite interesting to me.
I’ve even gotten some video of this couple and I’ll do an in-depth octopus post with lots of fascinating and titillating details forthcoming. For example did you know that this female octopus did not stop eating to mate????? :-0 Lots more on that later.....
We have also been finding seahorses, pipefish, cool decorator crabs and lots of other weird and wonderful characters. But till I can get it all sorted imagine for yourself - a bit of octo love!!!
